Mojave Magic Adventure

Duration: 7-day tour Price: $4,195 Food: Food/Lodging: Included Difficulty: Moderate

All US-based Rawhyde training tours include private accommodations by default. Double occupancy is available upon request.

As a motorcyclist on a tour, one of the most common experiences is what we call “a race through the museum.” You ride through an incredible place, think “wow, this is amazing,” but you can’t stay long and promise yourself you’ll return someday. Most of us never do, and that lingering feeling of “I really need to go back there” stays with us. Before diving into the details, please note that the specific route listed below may be impacted by weather, snowpack, Forest Service or BLM restrictions, and other land-management decisions, so adjustments may be required to ensure safety and compliance.

So let me introduce you to our Mojave Desert immersion training-tour, known as MMA. The majestic and magical Mojave is a world-renowned destination with one of the largest off-road playgrounds in the United States, and Rawhyde strategically built an adventure-focused facility on its western edge. We call it ZAKAR – an acronym for “Zombie Apocalypse Kompound At Rawhyde.” Situated on a hundred acres near the town of Mojave, California, it serves as our gateway to exploration and skill development in this remarkable desert environment.

There is so much to see and experience in the Mojave: Joshua tree forests, historic ghost towns, old mining sites filled with relics, and of course Death Valley, America’s second largest National Park and the crown jewel of the Mojave. Each of these locations becomes a classroom on a training-tour, where our coaches make instructional stops before changing terrain to review body positioning, line choice, throttle and clutch control, braking techniques, and the strategies needed to ride safely and confidently in varied conditions.

Over the course of the week, we will explore Death Valley and many of the most iconic and beautiful locations the Mojave has to offer. This is not a race through the museum. It is a true immersion into the desert, blending world-class adventure with continuous on-trail coaching so riders build real skill while experiencing the best of the region. By the end of the trip, you won’t want to return because you missed things. You’ll want to return because you’ve fallen in love with the desert.

Below is the day-by-day schedule, beginning with a half day of off-road refresher training to prepare riders for the days ahead.

Rawhyde’s Mojave Magic Adventure schedule
Day 1 - Sunday

Arrival at Rawhyde

Arrive at Rawhyde any time between 10:00 AM and 12:00 Noon. Since this training tour is largely “off-road” we are adding a half day refresher class before the off-campus experience begins. We’ll have lunch for you and then you can begin your refresher training just after lunch from 1 pm to 4:30 and get rid of whatever “rust” you’ve collected since the last time you were riding out in the back country. This refresher will focus mainly on the type of riding that you’ll be doing on the tour. Then on Sunday evening we’ll have dinner followed by a briefing to bring everyone up to speed on our plans for the week.

Day 2 - Monday

Rawhyde to ZAKAR via local mountains and the site of the 1913 St. Francis Dam disaster.

We begin the day on a little-traveled one-lane road leading from Rawhyde Ranch toward the site of the old dam. This opening section provides an opportunity for coaches to review riding fundamentals, pacing, and road positioning before transitioning off pavement. After visiting the dam site, we climb into the local mountains on moderately challenging dirt trails, where instructors pause before key sections to discuss line choice, traction management, and body positioning as the terrain becomes more demanding. Following lunch, the route drops down out of the mountains and into the desert, giving riders a chance to apply those techniques in faster, more open terrain. Coaches continue to provide on-trail guidance as conditions change, reinforcing adaptability and control before the group makes its way to ZAKAR for the evening.

Day 3 - Tuesday

ZAKAR to Beatty, Nevada via Death Valley.

We’ll depart from ZAKAR around 9:00 AM and head for Death Valley which is about 150 miles away. You’ll have several options for things to visit along the way… below you’ll find some of the possibilities for the days ride and we’ll determine on the day what you actually choose to see and the rest can be saved for the return trip to ZAKAR. Options: 1. Randsburg Ghost Town 2. The Charcoal Kilns 3. Agueberry Point 4. Ballarat Ghost Town 5. The Artists palette – in Death Valley

Day 4 - Wednesday

Depart from your motel in Beatty and head for Titus Canyon.

Its only a few miles from Beatty and it’s a one way & one lane road that leads back into Death Valley through an absolutely spectacular route. Titus Canyon is unquestionably the crown jewel of things to do in Death Valley. After we’re done with Titus Canyon we’ll head back toward ZAKAR, visiting the things we missed from the list above.

Day 5 - Thursday

ZAKAR to Sequoia National Park and Chimney Peak scenic byway.

Sequoia National Park borders the Mojave Desert in a way few people expect, and from elevations around 6,000 feet the views stretching out over the desert are nothing short of spectacular. As we ride the Chimney Peak Scenic Byway, coaches use the changing elevation and surface to discuss cornering technique, braking strategy, and visual discipline while taking in sweeping desert vistas. The route continues onto Nine Mile Canyon Road, a narrow, twisty mountain road that winds from the high elevations back down to the desert valley floor. This section offers an ideal environment to reinforce smooth throttle application, lane positioning, and controlled descending techniques. Once we reach the base of the mountains, we transition back onto dirt, following a scenic desert road with uninterrupted views as we ride back to ZAKAR for the night, applying skills learned throughout the day in a relaxed, flowing setting.

Day 6 - Friday

We’ll spend the morning exploring the El Paso Mountain mining district, an area packed with technical terrain and rich history. The El Pasos offer rocky climbs, narrow passages, and constantly changing surfaces, giving coaches plenty of opportunities to review advanced body positioning, traction management, and momentum techniques before riders tackle each section. Along the way, we’ll visit Burro Schmidt’s Tunnel and several other relics from the region’s mining past, surrounded by spectacular high-desert scenery. After a picnic lunch in the historic ghost town of Randsburg, we continue deeper into the desert to visit a sacred site in the middle of nowhere: the Husky Monument. This memorial to the desert moto community feels more like a massive open-air art installation, and the route leading there is unforgettable. Riders will cross a dry lakebed, traverse low-lying mountain ridges, and experience the full breadth of desert terrain while receiving guidance from coaches at key transitions. All in all, it’s a full day of skill building, exploration, and classic Mojave riding at its best.

Day 7 - Saturday

We will have a leisurely breakfast and pack up for the return to Rawhyde – or if you’re on your own bike you can head for home from ZAKAR if you wish, but we’ll still have some fun riding to do as we head back to the ranch. Its about a 3 - 5 hour ride back to the ranch from ZAKAR (depending on our route) and at that point our adventure will be complete. However it will have been a long week, and many folks don’t want to get off the bike and immediately head to the airport or home. So, if you’d like to stay one last night to reminisce about the week, dinner and lodging is included.
