Base Camp Alpha
All US-based Rawhyde training tours include private accommodations by default. Double occupancy is available upon request.
Base Camp Alpha is Rawhyde’s introductory training-tour, designed to extend the learning that begins in our training programs into real-world backcountry riding. Held on the Monday and Tuesday following each training weekend, this experience blends guided adventure with structured, on-trail instruction as riders head deep into the Mojave Desert.
Throughout the route, Rawhyde coaches lead the group through iconic terrain while making intentional instructional stops before changing conditions. Riders review body positioning, throttle and clutch control, braking technique, line selection, and gear choice before tackling climbs, rocky sections, and varied desert surfaces. The goal is simple – to reinforce core skills, build confidence, and apply training in authentic riding environments.
The tour includes a ride to the historic Burro Schmidt Tunnel, a hand-carved passage through solid rock, followed by exploration of the otherworldly Trona Pinnacles. The route combines flowing two-track, mild technical terrain, and scenic stretches that challenge riders just enough to promote progression without overwhelming newer adventurers.
Each day is fully supported with experienced coaches, chase vehicles, hydration stops, and continuous guidance as needed. Evenings at ZAKAR, our desert training and adventure facility, provide great food, comfortable accommodations, and time to unwind and debrief the day’s riding with instructors and fellow riders.
Base Camp Alpha is more than a ride – it’s a continuation of training in the field. The result is a rewarding introduction to adventure touring that builds skill, confidence, and lasting memories while setting the foundation for future Rawhyde training-tours.
