The California Coastal Adventure Tour is a one-time-only RAWHYDE experience led by BMW Brand Ambassador Shawn Thomas, with a RAWHYDE sweep rider and support truck. As a former RAWHYDE instructor, Shawn was instrumental in developing the original version of this tour, then known as the California Adventure, back in 2012. Now, RAWHYDE is bringing Shawn back to lead this newly reimagined coastal experience.

This five-day tour showcases some of the very best riding, scenery, and iconic landmarks California has to offer. Riders will experience amazing paved roads, a touch of hard-pack dirt, breathtaking coastal routes, redwood forests, upscale accommodations, and fine dining throughout.

Highlights include Elephant Seal Beach, Bixby Bridge, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, beachfront accommodations in Santa Cruz, lunch at the famous Alice’s Restaurant, a ride down legendary Lombard Street, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, and a visit to the Lick Observatory.

Day 1 - Monday

RAWHYDE to San Simeon

The tour begins with breakfast at RAWHYDE before we ride west, through Carrizo Plain National Monument, toward the California coast. Today’s route sets the tone for the week with a beautiful mix of paved backroads, a bit of flat dirt, wide-open scenery, coastal air, and the first taste of the incredible riding that makes California so special. We’ll enjoy a sack lunch along the way and continue toward San Simeon, one of the most scenic stops along the Central Coast. The evening is spent at the Cavalier Oceanfront Resort, where riders can relax by the water and enjoy the start of a very elevated RAWHYDE experience.

Day 2 - Tuesday

San Simeon to Santa Cruz

After breakfast at the Cavalier, we continue north along one of the most iconic coastal routes in the country. This day is all about ocean views, winding pavement, dramatic cliffs, and classic California scenery. Highlights may include Elephant Seal Beach, Bixby Bridge, coastal overlooks, and sections of the legendary Pacific Coast Highway. With Shawn Thomas leading the way, riders will experience the kind of carefully curated route that made the original California Adventure Tour so memorable. We’ll finish the day in Santa Cruz with beachfront accommodations at the Dream Inn, just steps from the ocean and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Day 3 - Wednesday

Santa Cruz to San Francisco

Today we ride from Santa Cruz toward San Francisco, combining coastal roads, redwood forest, famous landmarks, and classic Northern California motorcycling culture. Lunch will be at the famous Alice’s Restaurant, a legendary stop for riders known for its burgers (specifically, the BMW Burger), mountain-road energy, and long-standing connection to the Bay Area motorcycle community. From there, the day continues into San Francisco, where riders will experience some of the city’s most iconic sights from the saddle. Highlights may include riding across the Golden Gate Bridge and navigating world-famous Lombard Street.

Day 4 - Thursday

San Francisco to Monterey

Day 4 brings another unforgettable coastal riding experience as we travel from San Francisco to Monterey. This is a shorter but scenic day, giving riders time to enjoy the route, the ocean views, and the relaxed pace of California’s Central Coast. Depending on timing and conditions, the route may include more coastal pavement, redwood-lined roads, and beautiful stretches of riding around Monterey Bay. This day is designed to be scenic, social, and memorable, with plenty of time to enjoy one of California’s most iconic seaside destinations.

Day 5 - Friday

Monterey to RAWHYDE

The final day brings us south from Monterey back toward RAWHYDE. After breakfast, we’ll begin working our way inland and south, enjoying one more day of excellent California riding before closing the loop. By the time we return to RAWHYDE, riders will have experienced five days of incredible roads, coastal scenery, redwoods, iconic landmarks, upscale accommodations, fine dining, and the kind of shared adventure that makes a RAWHYDE tour unforgettable.
